Methodist Episcopal Church (MEC) Records 1842-1869

Founded between 1812 and 1819 by Pastor Walter Griffith, the original location of the church was at the northeast corner of East and Main (formerly Main Cross). By 1831 the church was renamed Wesley Chapel, moving to the north side of Main between West and Poplar. The final location of the church, after merging with the current Trinity United Methodist (in 1881) which consisted of St. John’s and Roberts Chapel on Broadway, was on Broadway between Main and Third Street.
